Don Mondell, PMHC, BCCLC

Hi, I’m Don Mondell. I help Christian adults suffering with anger, addictions, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame related to unresolved childhood trauma caused by abuse, abandonment, neglect, violence, harsh treatment, or family instability.

I am a trauma specialist, biblical counselor, and professional mental health coach, board-certified in health & wellness with over 35 years of experience. I’m also the founder of MySoulSteps.com (coming soon), FindTruePeace.com, and SoulCare Research, developer of the counseling tools HearHelp and P.R.A.Y., used by Christian counselors worldwide.

I am a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the International Christian Coaching Association, the International Board of Christian Care, and the Board of Christian Life Coaching.

More importantly, I advocate for victims and survivors of abuse.

For over 35 years, I have helped Christian adults affected by childhood trauma & abuse to mend their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual issues. It has been my life's passion to guide broken Christians toward wholeness in body & soul and a better life beyond their troubles.

I have been a husband to one wife for over 45 years, a father of four, a grandfather, and a Christian for 40+ years.

For those who require a deeper understanding of my ministry approach, I offer the following: education, credentials, philosophy, experience, professional associations, focus and process, and personal background.

Ministry Approach

My ministry takes a holistic approach (soul and body) to help broken Christians find emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual wellness and discover God’s purpose for their lives. All information shared between you, my client, and me is confidential.

I hold advanced certifications in health & wellness, PTSD, complex trauma, stress assessment & treatment, grief, sexual abuse, personality assessment, neuroscience in trauma survivors, and assessment & practice of spiritual gifts as presented in the Bible.

Along with traditional course & exam training, I also received more than 20 years of rabbinic-style education & mentorship (akin to a trade apprenticeship) with studies & practice in pastoral counseling & care, mentoring, coaching & discipleship, bible & theology, and ministry management. In the areas of theology, human behavior, and counseling, I am especially indebted to:

Philosophy

For 35+ years, I have studied sacred scripture, theology, biblical counseling, coaching, and discipleship. I base my ministry & practice upon that foundation. Thus, I believe the Bible holds solutions to our greatest needs.

I also believe that researchers & practitioners have succeeded in understanding a great deal of how the mind works; we call this Psychology.

Psychology offers insights into humans that align with Scripture and others that do not.

I also believe that psychology has devised some diagnostic instruments that can be helpful.

Though I believe Psychology has some valuable insights, instruments & processes, I do not operate from a humanistic worldview.

My worldview includes: Theology Proper, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Biblical Psychology, Human Psychology, Human Physical Health

  • Theology Proper is the study of God Himself. It focuses on knowing what we can know about God as revealed in sacred Scripture and in His creation.

  • Systematic Theology synthesizes the Bible, Church history, nature, and Christian philosophy into a Biblical worldview on a given topic.

  • Practical Theology is the core belief that drives behavior to accomplish God’s purposes in human life.

  • Biblical Psychology understands that the doctrines of salvation and sanctification do not operate solely in a physical, tangible, bodily sense. They are unavoidably psychological and nonetheless theological.

  • Human Psychology (man-discovered truth) is what we develop in understanding our inner human nature. I believe portions of Psychology align with sacred Scripture.

  • Human Physical Health (a man-discovered truth) is useful because God created us as integrated beings; what affects the body may affect the mind and vice versa.

In my mission to broken Christians, I use a combination of Scriptural truth along with well-known man-discovered truth.

When I say, “man-discovered truth,” I mean documented facts regarding the brain and body sciences, such as personality, emotion, intellect, sleep, nutrition, exercise, and human health.

I always suggest that people consult their professional healthcare provider when discussing the health of their body and mind.

Focus

My focus is on adult Christians who suffered trauma during childhood, most often related to a form of abuse.

As adults, they have not yet properly resolved the trauma of their youth. This unresolved past leads to mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical issues in the present.

Some of the possible issues are addictions, anger, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, lack of forgiveness, troubled relationships, such as marriage, career, family, and friends, as well as a lengthy list of other difficulties. I call these troubled brethren broken Christians.

I am passionate about seeing broken Christians become whole and finally find true peace by knowing about and experiencing the Father’s love, the Son’s redemption, and the Spirit’s power to discover God’s purpose for their lives.

Process

To help broken Christians, I have developed a process called MySoulSteps.

MySoulSteps are three steps a broken Christian will take to finally find peace, passion & purpose.

SoulStep 1 is SoulHOPE — Peace for My Soul

SoulStep 2 is SoulFOCUS — Passion for My God

SoulStep 3 is SoulPURPOSE — Purpose for My Life

Additional Experience

I was raised in a family business and later earned my Marketing Communications diploma from Ashworth College.

I have also been a husband & father for 40+ years. In my early years, we had a large family that I could not support with a typical ministry salary alone.

Thus, like many small-church pastors, I functioned as a bi-vocational minister for many years. In addition to ministry, I worked in the private sector as the Director of Communications and Marketing for a construction firm. I also served in government as a Public Information Specialist, overseeing public relations.

Later in life, I added additional training to focus my experience & knowledge to become board-certified in mental, emotional, and physical health as a proper Christian advocate for victims and survivors of abuse and trauma.

Faith Statement

My faith, my beliefs, my “faith statement” is the same as the tenets of mainstream Christianity found below.

I believe: There is one God,(1) who is infinitely perfect,(2) existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (3)

Jesus Christ is the true God and the true man. (4) He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. (5) He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust,(6) as a substitutionary sacrifice,(7) and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. (8) He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. (9) He is now at the right hand of Majesty on high as our great High Priest. (10) He will come again to establish His kingdom, righteousness, and peace. (11)

The Holy Spirit is a divine person (12) sent to indwell, guide, teach, and empower the believer (13) and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. (14)

The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice. (15)

Mankind was originally created in the image and likeness of God:(16) mankind fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men & women are born with a sinful nature,(17) are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. (18) The portion of the unrepentant and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment;(19) and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss. (20)

Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ, and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God. (21)

It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly,(22) being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. (23) This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion. (24)

Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. (25) Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the Church in this present age. (26)

The Church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church, (27) which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. (28) The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. (29)

There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life;(30) for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment. (31)

The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent(32) and will be personal, visible, and premillennial. (33) This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service. (34)
